This is a Carlton Canoe number 16188 Purchased in 1921 by Captain Chas. Magnus Charlton from Barnard, VT. I have a copy of the original build sheet.
Carlton Canoe was started in the 1820’s and purchased by Old Town Canoe in 1910.
This canoe was saved from a neighbor who was going to take it to the landfill in Barnard VT and refurbished by my father with the help of Horace Strong, a long-time canoe builder, from Craftsbury, VT. He also was assisted by the canoe shop of Tyler Thompson of Norfolk, Ct.
When the work was finally completed the canoe was used a few times and has been stored in a climate-controlled environment since. It is in excellent condition but could use fresh paint.
My father passed away a couple years ago and I can’t use it due to a bad back.
