1956 Old Town
Sport Boat, 12’ w
1956 Holsclaw trailer

$4100

Condition:

Excellent original wood with excellent restored Dacron canvas.

This 1956 beauty is most probably the best Old Town Sport Boat remaining, and it's Grade AA woodwork is the finest Old Town made. The boat was always garaged by its two previous family-owners and so, when I got it in 2016, the all-original wood only needed to be scuff-sanded and varnished. It has the most beautiful original patina!
The canvas was believed to be original but had torn so I re-canvassed it using Superflight SF101 3.7 oz. Dacron and expensive custom-mix Eko-Poly waterborne paints from Ohio's Stewart Systems. Both products are used for restoring aerobatic biplanes and are FAA certified.
The trailer is the boat's original 1956 Holsclaw Trailer, restored, LED wired, and with new 4x4 hubs and tires. The boat only weight about 100 pounds and the trailer about 200 so it pulls like nothing is there and is easy to maneuver around the garage.
I have, thanks to WCHA, the build sheet and some original Old Town catalogues. Plus many many dozens of pictures of the restoration.
I have always rowed the boat for exercise (140 miles per season) but broke my back last month in an auto accident so will not be rowing this season. But I CAN walk. Also, just before the accident, I had picked up a custom-made John D. Little 1968 Whitehall boat to restore and row so, God willing, that's what I'll have on the water next year.
On the beautiful mahogany transom I fitted a brass-angle trim strip to protect that edge. This boat should not be beached and I thought such a strip might give further protection if someone did try to.
